If an [individual] devotes themselves to the instructions of their own unconscious, it can bestow this gift [of renewal], so that suddenly life, which has been stale and dull, turns into a rich unending inner adventure, full of creative possibilities.
— Marie-Louise von Franz
One of the most … destructive forces, psychologically speaking, is unused creative power.

In the dreamwork technique of active imagination there are four stages. The last stage of active imagination is ritual. This final stage is a creative, physical gesture the dreamer makes to communicate back to the unconscious and thus increase the bridge between the two worlds. It can be a painting, a poem, a ritualized gesture (such as burning a significant symbol or throwing a key into the ocean), any creative act that honours the essence of the dream.

In approximately 2004, I started creating several mixed-media art pieces as the culmination of the active imagination process with certain dreams or series of dreams. The main medium I choose to work in is acrylic paints. I utilize a number of techniques, including image transfers, dry brush, cold wax medium (faux encaustics), glazing, altering of images, and photo collages, to create a sense of repetition and layers that give a dreamlike quality to the pieces.

I would like to acknowledge my art instructor, Jeanne Krabbendam, with whom I have exclusively worked, learning in her classes at Emily Carr, including her open studio courses, and in her visits to my art studio. She continues to be an enormous support, offering valuable feedback on new pieces and series as needed.

On this page, I share many of my art pieces that were inspired from dreams, as well as some explanation around their various meanings. Once I have somewhat understood the dream (although this always remains an ongoing process—dreams continue to reveal themselves decades after they have been dreamed), I often create my version of ancient symbols called sigils. These symbols hold the intentions that are the foundations of the art pieces. These sigils can be seen in almost all of my paintings, and I describe the essence of their meaning in the commentary that accompanies the images of the artwork.

I have made some of these pieces available to purchase as limited editions. The paintings available are giclées—custom, high-quality fine art prints of the originals done on canvases. They will be stretched before shipping.

A friend suggested that I make these giclées available. I initially struggled with the decision, as they are very personal images, intimately related to my own soulwork and individuation process. In the end, I decided the collective culture needs more creative expression of the dreaming psyche. It is my hope that one of these unique pieces will speak to something inside you, and that if you decide to acquire the piece, it will bring you closer to the intention it represents, increasing your personal bridge to the world of dreams in ways that are good and gentle for your own life.
